LeRoy Staley, 79, was born on December 15, 1935 and passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 3 a.m. at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the First Baptist Church with Brother Billie Ray Ulrey, Rev. Tom Marsh and Rev. Gene Ellis officiating. Burial followed in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey IL with graveside military rites by the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion.
LeRoy was one of the original trustees who decided in 1976, after many years of softball success, that it was necessary to preserve the history of softball in Casey and create a Hall of Honor Museum. Then in 2010, thanks to LeRoy and many businesses and individuals, the ASA selected Casey for the permanent home for their Hall of Fame. Once again LeRoy and many other local citizens donated time and materials to build an addition on the east side of the original museum for the new ASA Hall of Fame portion.
On April 29, 2011, LeRoy Staley was inducted into the Illinois ASA Hall of Fame for all his years as a team sponsor, specifically the 1980 Women’s State Champion – Casey Stingers.
